What is the ketogenic (keto for short) diet?
The ketogenic diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. By reducing carbohydrates, your body goes into a metabolic state called ketosis. During ketosis your body burns fat for energy. Ketogenic diets can cause reductions in blood sugar and insulin levels. This, along with the increased ketones, has numerous health benefits.

- Potentially reduces seizures.

Is the keto diet safe?
Some say the keto diet raises cholesterol and causes heart disease due to their high fat consumption, but despite the controversy, in most scientific studies, low-carb diets prove their worth as healthy and beneficial. A keto diet could be an interesting alternative to treat certain conditions and may accelerate weight loss. Some people find it hard to follow due to how restrictive it is, or they follow the diet wrong. This diet can be heavy on red meat and other fatty, processed, and salty foods that are notoriously unhealthy. The main criticism in the ketogenic diet is people consume poor-quality fats from processed foods, with very few fruits and vegetables. Instead, keto dieters should focus on high-fat, low-carb foods like eggs, meats, dairy and low-carb vegetables and fruits, and be sure to restrict highly processed foods and unhealthy fats.
